First Snow

Because this blog is also my gardening journal, I want to record the fact that we had our first snowfall of the 2006/2007 winter season today. No accumulation because the ground is still warm from the long period of unseasonable warm temperatures.

Now back to Teaming with Microbes which is finally getting easier to read after a very tough start.

More on this later . . .

I should read this book too. Our soil is mostly clay and some of the plants have a difficult time growing in it despite adding compost and I'm embarrassed to admit, fertilizers. I've tried vitamins and manganese to break down the clay but nothing seems to help. Some of the azaleas have yellow leaves, chlorosis and using Hollytone has helped but only temporarily. I guess I should contact the agricultural extension agent first and have a soil sample analyzed. Will look forward to your synopsis of the book.

I look forward to the reviews of 'Teaming' - I was unable to get it through the library, so I am reading a few of my own books (Rodale Publishing) to write about.

Carol, I will try to post my review this weekend. Here's a sneak preview: LOVED IT!

Ki, do both. The book recommends a soil analysis anyways. But read the book first for important info on what tests to have run and then how to interpret the results.

We just had our first real snow fall last Sunday so I guess that would have been January 14th. Strange weather all round.

Hope to see you later for Green Thumb Sunday! Oh and drop by Tricia's Musings too - My first blog is a YEAR old! I'm having a blog party.

Funny, we got our second snowfall for this winter at about the same time! The first one only lasted for a day or so, but this one looks like it's her to stay. New snow is on the way. *sigh*

I don't like snow. I prefer the warmth with all it's "greenery" :-)

Tricia, great job on GTS! I left a comment about how much I am enjoying it.

Mrs. Lifecruiser, I hate winter, but I love the change of seasons. Weird, I know.
